ACINET launches preparations for its fifth Ministerial Conference

The Presidency of the Tunisian Government hosted a meeting yesterday to launch the preparations for the fifth Ministerial Conference of the “Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network” (ACINET), which will mark the transfer of the ACINET chairpersonship from the Minister of Justice in Lebanon, to the Secretary General of the Government in Tunisia.

The preparatory meeting was attended by high-level representatives of all the Tunisian ministries and agencies that are currently members of ACINET, its regional support unit and the United Nations Development Programme as its principal partner.

Participants discussed the state of ACINET’s work and key requirements to ensure a smooth transition of its leadership of the Network and the successful organization of its fifth Ministerial Conference in 2016. They also discussed how Tunisia can support the upcoming work of ACINET, while benefiting from the platform it provides to enhance support to the national integrity system in the country. Participants concluded the meeting by drawing up a plan of action and agreeing to intensify coordination at the national level to ensure that Tunisia is best prepared for this leading regional role.

ACINET was established in 2008 and currently brings together 46 ministries from 17 Arab countries, as well as two observer members from Brazil and Malaysia, in addition to a “Non-Government Group” that comprises 23 independent organizations representing civil society, the business community and academia, making it the first Arab regional mechanism that brings together governmental and non-governmental entities to consult and cooperate against corruption.
