Gulf Cooperation Council Establishes a Committee for the Heads of Agencies Involved in the Fight Against Corruption and the Promotion of Integrity

In its 127th session held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) on 2 June 2013, the GCC Ministerial Council approved the establishment of a Committee for the heads of agencies involved in the fight against corruption and the promotion of integrity in GCC countries. Indeed, a meeting was held in Riyadh on 26 March 2013 upon the invitation of the Chair of the National Anti-Corruption Authority in KSA and was attended by the heads of agencies involved in the fight against corruption and the promotion of integrity in the GCC countries and H.E the Secretary General of the Council. The meeting aimed to discuss and exchange information on the efforts of GCC countries in the area of integrity and anti-corruption. Participants requested that the Council Secretariat submit the results of the meeting to the GCC Ministerial Council and raise the issue of the establishment of such a Committee to the Ministerial Council, upon the basis of the Council’s different ministerial committees that are already in place. H.E Mr. Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Sherif, Chair of the National Anti-Corruption Authority in KSA, underlined that the establishment of such a Committee is an important step for the promotion of integrity and for supporting anti-corruption efforts in GCC countries with a view to establishing independent anti-corruption bodies in alignment with the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
