Assessing Lebanon's Implementation of Provisions Relating to Corruption Prevention and Asset Recovery in the UNCAC

Beirut, Lebanon, 7/9/2014 - 7/10/2014

Organized by: UNDP-ACIAC

In cooperation with the Office of the Minister of State for Administrative Development (OMSAR) in the Republic of Lebanon, UNDP's Regional Project on Anti-Corruption and Integrity in the Arab Countries (UNDP-ACIAC) is organizing a training session entitled "Assessing Lebanon's Implementation of Provisions Relating to Corruption Prevention and Asset Recovery in the UNCAC" in Beirut on 9-10 July 2014. This training session comes as a follow up to the establishment by Lebanon's Technical Anti-Corruption Committee of 2 sub-committees, the first tasked with reviewing the implementation of Chapter II relating to preventive measures, while the second is tasked with reviewing the implementation of Chapter V relating to asset recovery, thereby continuing the review process of the UNCAC which Lebanon began in 2012-2013 in relation to Chapter III on criminalization and law enforcement, and Chapter IV on international cooperation. Participants to the training session include members of the two committees. The session aims to deepen their knowledge of requirements for implementing Chapters II and V and of related review methodologies; with a view to prepare committee members to conduct the self-assessment in an effective manner, in support of the ongoing work on the development of the national anti-corruption strategy on the one hand, and with a view to facilitate Lebanon's tasks in the framework of the international mechanism to review the implementation of the UNCAC on the other.
