Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on “Putting Anti-Corruption Commitments into Practice: Transparency, Participation and Rule of Law”

Rabat-Morocco, 6/9/2011 - 6/10/2011

Organized by: Ministry of Public Sector Modernization of Morocco, OECD and the UN Development Programme.

The Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on "Putting anti-corruption Commitments into Practice: Transparency, Participation and Rule of Law" was held under the High Patronage of the King of Morocco on 9-10 June in Rabat. It attracted over 200 high-level government representatives from 33 Arab and OECD countries, leading experts from 25 private sector and civil society associations as well as representatives of regional and international organisations.
The Dialogue enabled participants to reflect on ways to respond to the on-going transformation in the Arab region. Discussions explored approaches and practical solutions to strengthen existing efforts to improve governance and fight corruption in the region. It also formulated proposals for action, including :
• The launch of an observatory on integrity in the framework of the MENA-OECD Initiative to measure progress in the implementation of country-specific reforms against corruption;
• The instigation by the UNDP and its partners, particularly UNODC, of the “Anti-Corruption and Integrity in the Arab Countries” project (ACIAC), that will be implemented in 2011-2014;
• The establishment of a network that can represent the private sector perspectives and enable its effective participation in anti-corruption efforts, with support from the MENA-OECD Initiative and UNDP;
• The set up of a follow-up forum that would provide a high-level platform for the identification of new anti-corruption reform initiatives, including concrete time-bound government commitments to demonstrate progress.
The proposals for action will also support the discussions at the fourth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption to be held in October 2011 in Marrakesh as well as help inform the preparation of the meetings in the framework of the G8 Deauville Partnership in July.
